UPDATE: The Big Purge Just In Time For 2009

258 dead article directory listings have been purged, tossed, nixed, thrown out, deleted.... That's over 40% of the previous 612 listings are dead, gone, eliminated.... Pages on pages of article directories that no longer exist, leaving 354 current listings of directories that accept article submissions.

What else is new? YClepen no longer comments on page rank. In the review of the listings, there has been a clear trend to devalue page rank for the majority article directory sites over the past year. In many cases, it seems a bit of short term page rank 'love' for new sites corrected itself over time.

Overall, it became clear that page rank is meaningless to YClepen's listings. Either it changes too quickly, or it is not passed to article pages anyway. There are a few notable exceptions, that is, article directory sites with solid page rank -- they stand out as established, quality sites, and don't really need page rank as proof.

The other trend of 2008 has been the apparent damage caused by article 'spam.' Many sites seem to have shut down or stopped accepting articles on being overwhelmed with automated submissions of low quality articles. Of the remaining article directories, editorial standards vary from one end of the quality spectrum to the other. Some accept just about anything, while others are battling to maintain quality standards.

Finally, many sites have simply parked their domain names. Presumably, many were not serious about maintaining a functioning article directory, except as link bait.

August 19, 2007.

Every site listed in YClepen has been reviewed by a real live person more than once! No bots. No automatic updates.

This index of article directories is the product of weeding out hundreds upon hundreds of dead links, duplicates, redirects, and variously inappropriate sites.

Every site listed here was live at the time of the most recent update of the listing, and was live for at least one or more earlier visits. The standard of "more than one visit" was adopted because article directories can come and go faster than the life cycle of a fruit fly. As these article directory listings are re-updated, dead links are removed. Nevertheless, it is inevitable that some article submission sites listed here will have vanished or the article directory part of the site has been dropped -- but this directory of article directories is as up to date as "humanly" possible. :-)
